Beyond our commitment to delivering top-notch services to children and youth navigating various mental health hurdles, YPIC specializes in supporting individuals on the autism spectrum, cross-system youth, and those who have endured trauma.
Child Welfare
The historical framework of the U.S. Child Welfare system has been inherently punitive, often treating youth and their families as offenders rather than recognizing the influence of social and economic factors, as well as racial disparities, on behavioural health. Rather than addressing the underlying conditions faced by parents, the system has typically intervened by removing children from their homes, disproportionately affecting families of color experiencing poverty. Studies consistently highlight the systemic discrimination and implicit bias contributing to the overrepresentation of children of color in this system.
Recent legislative efforts have aimed to rectify these issues at a structural level. The Families First Prevention Services Act stands out as a pivotal step forward, incentivizing the preservation of family unity.
YPIC consistently customizes its services to address the evolving needs of youth and families navigating the child welfare system. However, the majority of our programs are crafted with the following objectives in mind:

Youth Unity Mentorship Program
The Youth Unity Mentorship Program fosters a supportive environment for young individuals to cultivate meaningful connections and personal growth within their respective gender groups. Through this program, boys and girls are provided with unique opportunities for mentorship, guidance, and camaraderie tailored to their specific needs and experiences.
For boys, mentorship sessions may involve activities focused on leadership development, emotional expression, and positive masculinity. They may engage in discussions on navigating challenges specific to young men, building healthy relationships, and setting and achieving personal goals. Male mentors serve as positive role models, offering guidance on topics such as resilience, self-esteem, and responsible decision-making.
Similarly, for girls, mentorship sessions create a safe space for exploring topics such as self-confidence, empowerment, and sisterhood. Girls may participate in activities aimed at building resilience, assertiveness, and self-care practices. Female mentors provide support and encouragement, helping girls navigate issues related to identity, body image, and peer relationships while fostering a sense of unity and solidarity among participants.
Both groups may also come together for joint activities, discussions, and community service projects, promoting mutual understanding, respect, and collaboration between genders. By separating boys and girls for mentorship sessions, the program aims to create an inclusive and supportive environment where young individuals can openly explore their identities, build meaningful connections, and ultimately thrive as confident and empowered members of their community.

Nestled amidst nature's beauty, Camp YPIC offers a holistic experience that integrates outdoor exploration with mental health support. Our program is designed to empower youth, foster resilience, and nurture mental wellness in a safe and inclusive environment.
In addition to exciting outdoor activities like hiking, canoeing, and team challenges, Camp YPIC prioritizes the mental health and emotional well-being of every camper. Our trained counsellors and mental health professionals provide support and guidance, offering workshops, group discussions, and individual counselling sessions to help campers navigate their emotions, build coping skills, and foster self-awareness.
Through mindfulness practices, art therapy, and outdoor reflection activities, campers learn to connect with themselves and others in meaningful ways, cultivating a sense of inner peace and resilience.
